| This program provides community Clergy to the Department,
including the officers, civilian employees and their families. These
four Pastors also assist the officers with death or serious injury
notifications. They also provide support at the site of any incident
where an extra word of comfort is useful. Many times their assistance
will free the officers to concentrate on other on-scene
responsibilities.
The Carmel Police Department Chaplain Program is a cooperative effort between the Chief of Police and the Carmel Clay Ministerial Association. The Chaplains serve at the behest of the Chief of Police. This is a non-denominational program as Police Chaplains must be prepared to serve persons regardless of their religious background. The current Chaplains include Rev. Patti Payntor (United Methodist), Fr. John Duncan (Roman Catholic), Rev. Alan Goertemiller (Lutheran), and is coordinated by Rev. George Davis (United Methodist) as a civilian employee of the Department. Departmental guidelines include police chaplain training and periodic on-call duties. For further information on Chaplain programs please visit the International Conference of Police Chaplains - Indiana Region. |
