Celebrate the Trails with “Opening Day” on April 13th

CARMEL, IN – The City of Carmel is proud to celebrate, in conjunction with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, the seventh annual Opening Day for Trails Saturday, April 13. Opening Day invites walkers, runners, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate spring by exploring trails in their community.

RtT Opening Day             “The City of Carmel has spent the last two decades building more than 200 miles of multi-use paths and trails and we know how vital these trails are to the quality of life and quality of place Carmel has. While our trails stay open year-round, we are pleased to have a nationwide kickoff to trail season,” said Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard.

In 2018, people nationwide celebrated Opening Day by visiting a trail in their neighborhood or by joining one of the special events offered around the country. This year, trail users can once again plan to join the celebration and pledge to hit the trails in honor of Opening Day.

“Opening Day for Trails is the perfect opportunity for people across the country to celebrate America’s spectacular trail system - and to connect with one another.  Whether it’s to play, exercise, volunteer, spend time in nature, explore their community or all of the above, Opening Day brings together trail users of all variety to appreciate and enjoy these treasured outdoor spaces,” said Ryan Chao, RTC president. “This year’s Opening Day promises to be another terrific celebration and we can’t wait to see you all out there.”
