Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Fatal Accident

The Carmel Police Department received a call regarding a pickup truck versus pedestrian accident on City Center Drive east of the Guilford Road intersection shortly after 7 a.m. on July 11, 2019. Officers arrived and found that Thomas McAllister, 81, of Carmel, had sustained fatal injuries that were caused from being struck by an eastbound 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck. The pickup truck was driven by Coty Coffman of Indianapolis, who remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Mr. McAllister was crossing City Center Drive near Timber Creek Drive, which is not a designated crosswalk, when he was struck by the pickup truck. The investigation revealed that glare from the sun may have been a factor in the accident. There is no reason at this time to believe that alcohol or drugs played a part in this tragic accident.

All lanes of City Center Drive are now open to traffic.
The Carmel Police Department would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding while the road was closed for investigation.
