Carmel is Prepared for the Winter Storm
In preparation for the upcoming winter storm, the Carmel Street Department is getting all the trucks fueled up and loaded. Crews started 12 hour shifts at noon today to guarantee rested drivers for the duration of the storm.
Light freezing rain will start around 7 p.m. this evening, Monday, January 31st, and is forecasted to produce.10 - .25 inch of ice with another .25” possible during the day tomorrow. The heavy band of the storm will hit tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, February 1st, with another .75” of ice possible until 3-4 a.m. Wednesday morning, February 2nd. At that time, it will turn into snow with 30 mph winds. New snow accumulations of 1-3” are possible before ending sometime Wednesday evening. This information is based on forecasts and is subject to change.
The Carmel Street Department is preparing loaders, backhoe and other equipment to use in case of downed trees or other related ice damage. It is also making sure that it has enough outlets for fuel in case of a widespread power outage.
