Carmel Dad's Club Honors Judge Brian Poindexter
News from Carmel Dad's Club
Carmel Dad’s Club President, Jack Beery, presented a service award to Carmel City Court Judge, Brian Poindexter. Beery complimented Judge Poindexter on his many years of service and dedication to the Club.
Carmel Dad’s Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing early skill development for young athletes and children. Since its inception, tens of thousands young athletes have participated in one of the Club’s sports programs including baseball, softball, football, basketball, cheerleading, lacrosse, rugby, volleyball, soccer, and/or special sports.
Judge Poindexter took his then eight year old daughter to her first softball practice a number of years ago. At that first practice the coach asked him to help. By the second practice he volunteered as an assistant coach. Each year thereafter he took a bigger role as a coach, an all-star team coach, as an age-level commissioner, and finally as General Commissioner of softball for the Club. As General Commissioner he has helped organize and operate the entire softball league, doing everything from picking up trash, to forming teams, to ordering equipment, and more.
Judge Poindexter says his motivation behind his Club participation was, in part, observing the increased confidence and skill development of his own daughter. In addition, from his years as a prosecutor, Judge Poindexter recognized the benefit to the community as a whole when children are provided a safe and supportive place to play sports.Although he has retired as the General Commissioner of softball, Judge Poindexter will continue to volunteer. According to Beery, Judge Poindexter helped with scheduling and other organizational issues this spring. He also expects to see the Judge helping on opening day this softball season, and many days thereafter.
