Late afternoon update: City offices will again be curtailed Tuesday

CARMEL, IN – Road conditions in Carmel continue to improve, but bitter cold temperatures have prompted Mayor Jim Brainard to order City Hall to be open on Tuesday, but only with essential personnel. Meanwhile, emergency officials continue to reach out to residents impacted by power outages.

Here are some late afternoon updates:

  • Carmel City Hall will be open Tuesday to address the needs of local residents, but in limited operations mode with only essential personnel working, alongside any others that can safely make it into the office. “We will be ready to serve our citizens, as always, but we also want to keep in mind the safety of our city employees,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
  • Carmel Police and Fire personnel have been going door-to-door in the area of 106th Street to 98th Street, East of Keystone Ave to Lake Shore Drive East, making sure residents who are without power are okay. The American Red Cross shelter at Carmel High School remains open and at last check, there are about four people currently being served there. The number of individuals at the shelter has fluctuated all day. Personnel are in the process of transporting individuals from the shelter back home and/or to local hotels.
  • Carmel Streets: The city’s snow plowing team has cleared all main and secondary streets and continues to make progress on residential neighborhoods and cul-de-sacs. An all-city plow will be complete before tomorrow morning. REMINDER: City plows are still focused on clearing out the streets and at this point cannot take extra time to clear the end of residential driveways, unless it is an emergency.
  • Carmel City Council: As a reminder, tonight’s Council meeting has been cancelled.
  • Carmel City Court will also operate in a Limited Operations Mode tomorrow.
