Mural Dedication at the World’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery in the Arts & Design District.
Watch this video to see the celebration of the mural unveiling in the Arts & Design District. The mural is painted on the west side of the Carmel Antique Mall on Main Street and was designed and painted by Carmel High School students.

 

 


          

The 2007 Veterans Day Celebration took place at Carmel City Fire Station No. 1. Mayor Jim Brainard presides over the ceremony, National observance honoring fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air force.

 

 

 


          

The 2007 Memorial Day Celebration took place at the Carmel Veterans Memorial Plaza. Mayor Jim Brainard presides over the ceremony, National observance honoring fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air force.

 


          

The 2007 Hamilton County Police Memorial took place at Civic Square in Carmel. This event pays honor to the fallen officers from law enforcement in Hamilton County and coincides with the national observance honoring fallen officers.

 


          

Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony 2007

The theme of this year’s ceremony was “Children in Crisis: Voices from the Holocaust.” Keynote speaker, Phil Lande told the story of his father who was a prisoner in Auschwitz and Dachau, Richard Zochowski shared his father's experience in work camps during the Holocaust and Army Veteran, J. Ray Clark told of his experience as a Liberator of Buchenwald. Rabbi Bienstock of Congregation Shaarey Tefilla in Indianapolis was Master of Ceremonies and Mayor Brainard read a City of Carmel proclamation for the "Days of Remembrance."

Creekside Middle School Sixth Grade Cadet Choir performed a musical tribute and Derek Hakes of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis performed an original composition on hand bells. Carmel High School Hebrew students students also participated in the ceremony.

 


          
Carmel City Center Theatre Groundbreaking

Ground was broken Tuesday, March 13, 2007 for the Carmel City Center Theater by Mayor Jim Brainard, members of the Carmel Redevelopment Commission (CRC) and Carmel City Council. Entertainment was provided by the Actors Theatre of Indiana and speakers included CRC and Council member, Rick Sharp, Mayor Jim Brainard and Carmel Community Players President, Larry Creviston.  The 500-seat theater is part of the City’s public/private partnership of developing Carmel’s Performing Arts Center. This facility is scheduled to be completed concurrent with the Concert Hall which plans to open in December of 2010. 

 


          
Carmel Performing Arts Center Unveiled

The much anticipated plans for the Carmel Performing Arts Center were unveiled at Carmel City Hall by Mayor Jim Brainard, the Carmel Redevelopment Commission and members of Carmel’s City Council. It was revealed that the design of the building will be Neo-classical to complement the surrounding City Center development and be a landmark building for the region. Planning for this performing space has been underway for about a decade. In this video you will get a first hand look at the architectural design of the outside of the building as well as view a fly through of the inside.

 


      

Carmel City Center Ground Breaking
 
The groundbreaking ceremony for Carmel City Center was one of the most anticipated events this year in Carmel. Mayor Jim Brainard was joined for this event by City Council Members Carmel Redevelopment Commissioners and representatives form Pedcor Development. Hundreds attended to celebrate the beginning of this project.

Trail Etiquette

With more than 42 miles of trails and bike paths in Carmel and Clay Township, it is important users to understand that there are specific rules for trail use in our area that may differ from other trails. In this video avid bikers Ron Carter, City Councilman at large and Judy Hagan outline the rules and common courtesies expected from trail users in Carmel and Clay Township.

 


       
Arbor Day 2007

The 2007 Arbor Day celebration took place in Central Park. More than 1,000 volunteers had helped plant trees throughout the week leading up to the Saturday celebration. During the ceremony, the Donna Manlove Excellence in Urban Forestry Award was presented. Carmel was again recognized as a Tree City USA.

Janet Arnone stopped by from the Carmel Clay Communications Center informed us about alarm permits and Marti Lindell told us all about how to become involved with “Meals on Wheels.” The Carmelfest sponsors were also interviewed on the show and Nancy Heck showed us another great feature on the city’s website. Paul Backer stopped by to spread the word about Faith, Hope & Love Week and Judi Johnson told everyone know about Prevail’s Red, White and Blues Fundraising Event. Jeff interviewed Beth Cisco from the St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana to thank them for their sponsorship of the Carmelfest Parade and Nancy Heck showed us another great feature on the city’s website. Welcome to Bub’s Café! It’s Bub’s new place just a block south of the original on the Monon Trail. Jeff and Stephanie had a great time taking over the new restaurant for the June show. This month also included a special segment at the Carmel Clay Public Library. Jeff interviewed local author, Jeff Stone, at his book signing.
