The City of Carmel has been recognized for excellence in many aspects of its planning, development, implementation and service. Carmel's work force is well trained and dedicated to providing the highest level of service to residents, businesses and visitors to our community. This work has been recognized by various organizations locally, nationally and internationally and we have provided a list of some of those awards below.

Mayor Jim Brainard  -

  • One of the “Most Powerful Hoosiers in the World” by Indianapolis Monthly
  • 2004- Butler University 50 Under 50
  • 2007- Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (Crossroads of America Council)
  • 2011- National Award for Local Arts Leadership (US Conference of Mayors)
  • 2012- Butler University Robert Todd Duncan Alumni Achievement Award
  • 2012 – Public Service Award (American Council of Engineering Companies [ACEC] of Indiana)
  • 2013 - Joseph P. Riley Jr. Award – Honored at the 2013 International Making Cities Livable Conference with this award given to Mayor Jim Brainard for his inspirational leadership in creating a vibrant, multi-functional heart for the City of Carmel, Indiana through the development of City Center and the Arts & Design District including the Center for the Performing Arts.

  • 2010 - The Keystone Parkway project, specifically the roundabout interchanges at 106th and 126th Streets, was the top award winner at the 2010 Engineering Excellence Awards Sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana.
  • 2010 - City Livability Award for Outstanding Achievement Small City, U.S. Conference of Mayor/Wast Management, Class A Biosolids
  • 2006 - Honorable Mention for Municipal Excellence from the National League of Cities
  • 2001 - City of Character Award for Discernment, Initiative and Diligence and many other character qualities that have been demonstrated in establishing a “culture of character” within the community, The International Association of Character Cities
