    Housing Starts Continue to Increase in 2012

    Carmel, IN – The number of home construction permits issued in Carmel/Clay Township continues to increase when compared with previous years’ figures. Records from the City of Carmel Department of Community Services indicate a 130 percent increase in the total number of permits between April 2011 and April 2012. Year to date (YTD) figures also recovered, with the total number of permits issued through April 2012 YTD up 51 percent when compared with April 2011 YTD permits.

    Carmel Files Injunction against the Double Apple Lounge

    CARMEL, IN – The City of Carmel is seeking an injunction to stop the Double Apple Lounge from operating. This establishment was recently accused twice in less than four months by the Indiana State Excise Police of having minors on the premises and in the bar consuming alcohol and/or in possession of alcohol. The City believes the defendants are likely to continue the practice of serving minors if the Double Apple Lounge remains open.

    Double Apple Lounge Update

    CARMEL, IN – The arrest of 16 minors on Saturday night at the Double Apple Lounge prompted Mayor Jim Brainard to send a building code inspector, city prosecutor and Carmel Fire Marshall to inspect the establishment located on the northeast corner of 96th and Michigan Road, just inside the Carmel city limits. The Mayor was concerned after reading reports in the news about an incident of underage drinking at the Double Apple Lounge and the attempt by management to hide those minors (some as young as 15) by having them pose as kitchen staff.

  • Carmel to Participate in Bike to Work Day Friday, May 18th

    CARMEL, IN - This month, the City of Carmel is celebrating National Bike Month and Friday, May 18th has been designated National Bike to Work Day. Carmel residents are encouraged to use the Carmel Access Bikeway and the many multi-use paths that make up part of Carmel’s alternative transportation network as they bicycle to work or to park their vehicles at the Monon Community Center and ride to work from there. The Monon Community Center’s parking lot will be available for bike to work riders to park their cars while they ride to and from work on the 18th.

    Bike to School Day 2012

    Carmel, IN – This month, the City of Carmel is celebrating National Bike Month and Wednesday, May 9th has been designated National Bike to School Day. Orchard Park Elementary and Prairie Trace Elementary in Carmel are encouraging students to bike to school on the morning of May9th. Orchard Park Elementary will have students join a bike ride from the Monon Community Center to the school lead by the Carmel Police Department. Prairie Trace Elementary is encouraging all of their walkers and cyclists to ride into school on the 9th. Please use extra caution when driving near either of these elementary schools during your morning commute.

    US 31 Lane Restriction Tonight

    CARMEL, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has rescheduled Wednesday’s overnight traffic restriction on US 31. Tonight, southbound US 31 will have a right lane restriction between 146th Street and Clay Terrace Boulevard/Range Line Road for pavement repairs. Restrictions are expected to begin at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19 and should be lifted by 6 a.m. Friday, April 19.

    The City of Carmel’s Days of Remembrance Ceremony 2012 to commemorate the Holocaust. The program will include a keynote address by Madene Shachar from Ghetto Fighter’s Museum and Yad Layeled Children’s Museum in Israel “The Importance of teaching our next generation.” Mayor Jim Brainard will read a Civic Proclamation and offer remarks. Rabbi Benjamin Sendrow of Congregation Shaarey Tefilla will act as Master of Ceremonies. The program will provide a musical performance by soprano Melissa Pesia Cohen.
