e Gingerbread House Raffle benefitting the CFD Christmas Assistance Program is a new addition to Holiday on the Square. CASE Design is designing, building and donating the life size Gingerbread House playhouse to help raise money for the Carmel Fire Department’s Christmas Assistance Program. Bob Shade owner of ArtSplash Gallery will be decorating and painting the Gingerbread House while Porter Paints will donate the paint. The Gingerbread House winner will be selected on December 12th at the Carmel Fire Department Holiday Luncheon. More details will be shared in the coming weeks regarding this exciting new signature event for the City of Carmel.
The Carmel Fire Department (CFD) is organizing their annual Christmas Assistance Program (CAP), which helps families and children living in Hamilton County that need assistance this holiday season. The CFD receives names of families from the Hamilton County Good Samaritan Organization and works to find sponsors for those families living in Clay Township to purchase gifts and deliver food baskets to those families.
Mayor Jim Brainard and members of local veterans organizations have worked together to put on this community event in honor of our veterans. Participants include Mayor Jim Brainard, LTC Ron Martin, US Army, Retired as keynote speaker, Carmel VFW/American Legion Honor Guard, the Carmel Elementary School Choir and the Actors Theatre of Indiana’s own “Andrews Sisters.” The city-wide “Their Service – Our Freedom” poster and essay contest winners will also be recognized. Students will read their winning essays at the ceremony.
The Clay Township Trustee and the City of Carmel have been honored with awards in four categories of the Philo T. Farnsworth Video Competition. Winners were announced at the Philo Festival of Media Arts at the campus of Northern Kentucky University earlier this month.
The James Building, in Carmel City Center will get another new tenant by the end of the year. DPS, Inc. (Data Processing Services) will move into the building that also houses the Tarkington and Studio Theaters, as well the corporate headquarters for Software Engineering Professionals (SEP) and Periculum.
Carmel Utilities, in conjunction with the Carmel High School International Baccalaureate Students, Carmel Area Roots & Shoots and DAO Recycling, have teamed to hold a major recycling event as a kick off of the Carmel-Clay Schools week-long America Recycles Day efforts. The event will run from 8a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 and will feature free home pick-up of appliances ($5.00 fee for TVs, monitors and mattresses) and other hard to recycle items for Carmel residents and businesses. Donors are offered tax deductible receipts for many items.
Oktoberfest at Merchants Square will again feature a lively performance by Polka Boy! Enjoy additional entertainment by authentic German dancers, food, prizes and the Biergarten.

A local business, Periculum Capital Company, will locate its headquarters in The James Building in Carmel City Center on November 5, 2011. This is the building where the Tarkington and Studio theaters are located, as well as corporate headquarters for Software Engineering Professionals.
On Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at approximately 6:45 am the Carmel Police Department responded to a shots fired call in the 900 block of 3rd Avenue NW. Police officers discovered a deceased male and a deceased female inside the residence. Both bodies appeared to have gunshot wounds. A handgun was found in close proximity to the deceased male. They were identified as Suzanne Saunders, a 50 year old white female and Aaron Saunders, a 46 year old black male.

A new federal grant is fueling a ramped-up marketing effort for the Indy Express Bus service that takes commuters from Carmel and Fishers to downtown every weekday.

Carmel, IN – Popular Indy party band, “Polka Boy,” will perform at the Merchants’ Square annual Oktoberfest on Friday, October 14th at 6 p.m. The City of Carmel, Merchants’ Square, Ramco-Gershenson, Knauss Property Services and area businesses are hosting Oktoberfest to celebrate the vibrant retail options and ease of use of Merchants’ Square and its surrounding businesses.
Carmel's Police Department has announced that the official hours of trick or treating in the City will be Monday, October 31 from 5 to 8 p.m.
On Saturday September 24, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday September 25, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM we will be celebrating the 14th anniversary of the Carmel International Arts Festival.

In order to make curbside recycling available for all Carmel homeowners and to provide an economical rate for trash and recycling services, the Carmel City Council amended and then approved the proposed ordinance for citywide trash and recycling service to begin January 1, 2012.
The City of Carmel was honored with the Silver Circle Award on Thursday, September 8, at the 2011 Savvy Awards competition at the national conference of the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA). Carmel entered its three-year communications plan for the Keystone Parkway project in the awards competition this year. The judges said that Carmel’s entry was “only a split hair from winning the Savvy [1st place award] - this was a methodically implemented three-year project that was perfectly executed, keeping the Carmel community apprised of all construction activities and ultimately winning over their hearts, and did we mention it’s a roadway!”
City of Carmel’s first responders, along with area churches are participating in a one minute remembrance on September 11, 2011 at 1 p.m. Carmel’s Police Department and Fire Department will sound individual sirens at this time across the City, while participating churches ring church bells for one minute.
The City of Carmel and neighboring communities invite you to join us on September 10, 2011, for the 17th Annual White River Clean-Up. This will be Carmel’s 7th year participating in the event. Volunteers will remove trash from the White River in an effort to make a difference in our community and improve water quality.
The Carmel Fire Department and Northview Church will hold a memorial service on Sunday September 11, 2011 at 12:30 p.m.at Northview Church.
