In 1988, citizens of Carmel and Clay Township founded Citizens for Greenspace to ensure the community preserves and incorporates greenspaces into its development plans. Greenspace accomplishes its mission through education programs for all ages; Arbor Day stree/park plantings and seed distributions; and the maintenance and development of public gardens. Two paved bike/walking trails run adjacent to the Hazel Dell extension from 96th Street to 146th Street.- Monon Trail
The Monon Trail is a 5.2-mile trail from 96th Street to 146th Street connecting to the Indianapolis Monon Greenway.- River Trail
The River Trail is a two-mile trail along the White River from north of 131st Street to River Road Park.- River Heritage Park
The 40-acre park is located at the Indianapolis Water Company site on River Road north of 116th Street. The park will offer an open shelter, a playground area, fishing, and basketball and sand volleyball courts.- Wellhead 21
The five-acre park located north of 131st Street off Ivy Hills Drive. It offers a one-mile paved trail with native wildflowers and prairie grasses.- West Park Site
A citizen committee will be formed in the spring of 1998 to develop a master plan for the 75-acre park site located at 116th Street and Towne Road.- The following two park sites, were donated by the Martin-Marrietta Corporation.
