Carmel Housing Authority

The Housing Authority consists of five commissioners appointed by the Mayor, two of which are required to be from the opposite political party from the Mayor. All Housing Authority Commissioners must be residents of Carmel.

“Carmel is fortunate not to have widespread housing issues. However, there are still several properties that are not maintained to state health and safety requirements and this commission will have the power to take action,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.

"If this commission had been in place, the removal of the Carmel Motel would have been more streamlined,” added Mayor Brainard.

The Housing Authority was created by Carmel City Council November 1, 1999. It has the ability to take quick action on abandoned houses to protect the property values of nearby homeowners.
