All Commercial/Institutional/Multi-Family projects must complete a permit application and email it to permits@carmel.in.gov as an attachment. If you have any questions, call Building & Code Services at (317) 571-2444. Once the project is assigned a permit number you will receive information about uploading plans into ProjectDox.

All plumbing plans and Grease Removal Device (GRD) information must be submitted in ProjectDox for approval by Carmel Utilities staff.

Include in your ProjectDox submittal:

  • Detailed plumbing plans – Grease waste lines shall be labeled “GW” and sanitary sewer lines labeled “SAN”
  • A list of specific equipment to be connected to the Grease Removal Device
  • Grease Removal Device sizing calculation
  • The Grease Removal Device Make, Model, Location, and Size requested for installation.

The required Grease Removal Device must be sized and configured according to common engineering standards and approved by Carmel Utilities prior to installation. Prior to starting any sanitary sewer work please call (317) 733-4600 to speak to a collection system inspector about sanitary sewer connection requirements and Grease Removal Device sanitary connection.

For questions about sizing the Grease Removal Device or equipment connections please call (317) 571-2477.

The Grease Removal Device shall be located so that maintenance and inspections can be easily performed.

The Grease Removal Device manufacturer’s recommendations regarding installation must be followed.

Once the project is released for construction in ProjectDox, the approved Grease Removal Device can be purchased.

Before installing the Grease Removal Device, back filling or using the device there must be an installation inspection.

Please call (317) 733-4600 to schedule a Grease Removal Device Installation inspection.

All Grease Removal Device users (FOG Facilities) are required to enroll and electronically submit cleaning and maintenance records via SwiftComply.
