Carmel Resident Receives
Range Line Pioneer Award
Carmel, IN – Ila Badger will be
honored with Carmel’s Range Line Pioneer Award for her work
educating others about organ donation and liver disease. She
will be presented this award at the American Liver
Foundation’s (ALF) Salute to Excellence Gala where she will
be their 2008 Honoree for the State of Indiana, on Saturday,
May 3rd, at the Westin, Indianapolis.
Alan Potasnik will present the Range Line Pioneer award to
Ila at the ALF Gala on behalf of the City of Carmel and
Mayor Jim Brainard. At this event, she will be the first
non-doctor to be honored for her involvement with the ALF
and her efforts to spread the word about liver disease and
being an organ donor.
“Ila has been a vital part of the Carmel Community for many
years. She has relentlessly and unselfishly given her time
to spread the word about organ donations in Carmel and
across Indiana. She is a wonderful asset to our community,
and her contributions are endless,” said Mayor Brainard.
Ila currently serves on Carmel Clay Public Library Guild.
She also served 10 years on the Carmel Clay Plan Commission
and eight years on the Carmel Clay Board of Zoning Appeals.
She currently is the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization
(IOPO) /Bureau of Motor Vehicles “Buddy” for the Carmel
license branch.
Ila received a life saving liver transplant on June 29,
2001. Since then, she has been a volunteer spokesperson for
the IOPO and the ALF. She has spoken to help promote organ,
tissue and eye donation to over 125 groups, service clubs,
schools, hospitals, churches and conventions reaching more
than 16,000 people during the last six years.
Ila has given many hundreds of hours helping label and stuff
envelopes, working health fair and information booths for
the IOPO. She has made 30-second public information
announcements to air on the radio for the IOPO concerning
organ donation. She has appeared on various Indianapolis TV
station segments promoting organ donation. Ila has written
articles for publications such as Clarian Health, The
American Liver Foundation, CHALTS (liver transplant support
group) and the I.U. Medical Center. She was a Board member
of CHALTS (Clarian Health Adult Liver Transplant Support).
In 2007, Ila was awarded the Broad Ripple Sertoma Service
Club “Service To Mankind Award” for her volunteer efforts
for organ and tissue donation in the State of Indiana.
The Range Line Pioneer Award was established in 1992 and has
only been given 60 times to date. Ila will be its 61st
recipient. It is the highest honor given by the City of
Carmel. It is conferred upon a person who lives in or out of
the community who has been a friend to the City. This award
has been given to local ministers, community volunteers,
retired police officers, and a US Congressman.
The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation's leading
nonprofit organization promoting liver health and disease
prevention. ALF provides research, education and advocacy
for those affected by liver-related diseases, including
