“Were You Counted?”
Hotline Set Up
to Complete Enumeration Phase of Carmel’s Special Census
Carmel, IN – As the City of Carmel’s
Special Census winds down, the Federal Census office has
enacted its “Were You Counted?” hotline. Citizens who feel
they may not have been included in the Special Census should
call toll-free, 1-888-722-8995, to answer the brief
Special Census questions. This should only take about five
minutes of your time.
This special hotline will only be active until Friday,
September 14th. Callers should contact the hotline between
the following hours:
Monday – Thursday: 9:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Special Census gathers information from each Carmel
household on seven subjects: name, household relationship,
gender, date of birth, age, Hispanic or Latino origin, and
race. Race and Hispanic origin are asked because individuals
of Hispanic origin could be of any race. Answers to both
questions are used to plan, monitor, and fund programs that
target certain populations. The Census Bureau never releases
information that identifies you or your household.
“We really appreciate Carmel citizens participating in this
Special Census. Because tax dollars are tied to population,
it is important that the count is as accurate as possible.
This convenient hotline will provide one last opportunity
for residents to be counted in Carmel to help ensure that
the City gets the maximum possible amount of federal tax
dollars returned to the community to help keep our city tax
rate one of the lowest in Indiana,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
The Special Census will update Carmel’s population count and
give the City greater access to tax dollars distributed
according to population. This could mean as much as $3
million in additional tax revenue for Carmel. This
additional revenue from the state could be used for road
projects, education for our children, programs for our
senior citizens, and other important services for our
community.
