Illinois Street
Extension Complete
What:
Celebration for the opening of the new portion of
Illinois Street from 131st Street to 136th Street.
When:
Monday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m.
Where:
Look for the tent located at the intersection of
Shakamac Drive and Illinois Street. Parking will be
available at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Carmel at
13225 Illinois Street.
Who:
Mayor Jim Brainard will be joined by Rick Sharp, City
Council representative for this district and other City
Council members, representatives from American
Structurepoint and other local dignitaries.
Background:
Illinois Street is a new road designed to improve
north/south traffic flow west of US 31. The first phase
of Illinois Street was complete last fall. Now, the
north leg of Illinois Street starts just south of 116th
Street and extends to 136th Street. Improvements
included a divided boulevard section with new curb and
gutters, enclosed storm sewers, multi-use paths, a new
2-lane roundabout, and decorative retaining and
screening walls.
