Tenth Annual Carmel International Arts Festival
Carmel, IN – The Tenth Annual Carmel International
Arts Festival will take place Saturday, September 22nd from
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 23rd from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. For the second year, the festival will be held in the
Carmel Arts and Design District on Main Street in Old Town.
The festival is free and open to the public.
The Carmel International Art Festival is a juried show
featuring artwork from all over the world. A children’s
activity area is planned for those attending with young
children. Food vendors and entertainment with an
international flair is also scheduled. This year’s opening
festivities will feature a performance by a Chinese Dragon.
Artwork of various media will be available for purchase
including watercolor, oils, pottery, sculpture, glass, wood,
acrylic, textiles, mixed media and more. Monetary awards are
presented for “Best in Show” as well as Second through Third
Place awards. Ten “Best of Media” awards and ten overall
“Honorable Mention” awards will also be presented. The
winners of these awards will be announced sometime Saturday
afternoon.
“The success of last year’s event made it clear that Main
Street is the perfect venue for the Carmel International
Arts Festival. This is exactly the type of event we wanted
to attract when the Arts and Design District was designated.
The event will bring more exposure and increase foot traffic
to those located in the district and ties together the arts
with the businesses located in the district,” said Mayor Jim
Brainard.
Representatives from Carmel’s Sister City, Kawachinagano,
Japan, are participating in the festival again this year.
Mr. Kiichi Yoshinaga, a traditional thatched roof artist,
will give demonstrations on thatched roofing techniques and
Mrs. Mayumi Nishiura, a professional ceramic artist, will
display her art during the festival. Children’s artwork from
Kawachinagano will also be on display at the World’s
Smallest Children’s Art Gallery.
The Carmel International Arts Festival board is comprised of
Rosemary Waters, President; Jeff Worrell, Vice President;
Sandy Barretto, Vice President; and Elaine Bass,
Secretary/Treasurer. Other members of the Board include
Doreen Squire Ficara, Douglas Haney, Alexandra Jackiw,
