Carmel’s
Recycling Program Receives
Statewide Award
Carmel, IN – The City of
Carmel received a prestigious 2000
Community Achievement Award from
the Indiana Association of Cities
and Towns, for its Household
Hazardous Waste Disposal Program.
Mayor James Brainard and Carmel
Utilities Director John Duffy, were
presented with the award at the
recent Indiana Association of Cities
and Towns Annual Conference in
Evansville, Indiana. Indiana
Association of Cities and Towns
Community Achievement Awards are
given annually to cities and towns
for outstanding economic
development, publications or
promotions, improved efficiency or
revitalization.
Carmel’s Household Hazardous
Waste Disposal Program program is a
cost-effective program designed to
protect individuals, the community,
and the environment from hazardous
toxins. It provides for proper
disposal or reuse of hazardous
household products and home medical
supplies that should not be placed
in the trash, dumped on the ground
or discharged into the sewer system.
"I am proud of the recognition
we have been given for our unique
collection program," said Mayor
Brainard. "Carmel is cleaner
and safer because of this
progressive endeavor."
This service, which is offered to
Carmel Water/Wastewater Utility
customers at no charge, is open on
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday
