Carmel’s Recycling Program Receives Statewide Award

Carmel, IN – The City of Carmel received a prestigious 2000 Community Achievement Award from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, for its Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program.

Mayor James Brainard and Carmel Utilities Director John Duffy, were presented with the award at the recent Indiana Association of Cities and Towns Annual Conference in Evansville, Indiana. Indiana Association of Cities and Towns Community Achievement Awards are given annually to cities and towns for outstanding economic development, publications or promotions, improved efficiency or revitalization.

Carmel’s Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program program is a cost-effective program designed to protect individuals, the community, and the environment from hazardous toxins. "I am proud of the recognition we have been given for our unique collection program," said Mayor Brainard. "Carmel is cleaner and safer because of this progressive endeavor."

This service, which is offered to Carmel Water/Wastewater Utility customers at no charge, is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. For more information, please call Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Program Program Coordinator Steve Couts at 571-2624.
