Immediate
Carmel Police Officer Charged
Carmel, IN - Today, Carmel Police
Officer Michael B. Flynn (33 years old of Carmel, Indiana)
was charged with the following:
Count 1: Forgery (C Felony)
Count 2: Auto Theft (D Felony)
Count 3: Official Misconduct (D Felony)
Count 4: Obstruction of Justice (D Felony)
These charges are the result of a two month investigation
conducted by the Carmel Police Department. This
investigation began on September 18, 2007 with a report of a
stolen white 1995 Lexus. This case was originally reported
to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department; however,
it was later forwarded to the Carmel Police Department when
they realized the theft occurred at the Penske Chevrolet
dealership in Carmel. As Detectives began looking into the
stolen vehicle they discovered that it was recently
registered to Flynn. Flynn also worked off duty security for
the Penske dealership during the time when the vehicle was
stolen. Detectives continued the investigation and
discovered additional crimes related to the stolen vehicle.
Once the Carmel Police investigation was completed, the case
was submitted to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office for
their review. Today the Prosecutor’s Office formally charged
Flynn with the four felony counts and bond was set at
$10,000.
Flynn has worked for the Carmel Police Department since
September of 1999. He is a patrol officer in the Operation
Division. Flynn was placed on administrative leave with pay
on September 28, 2007 pending this criminal investigation.
Now that the investigation is complete, Flynn has been
placed on administrative leave without pay pending the
resolution of the criminal charges.
* Chief Michael Fogarty will be holding a news briefing
regarding this matter at 6:45 pm this evening at the Carmel
Police Department.
