CERT

Members of the CFD have been teaching a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program to local Carmel and Clay Township residences.

The purpose of CERT training is to provide private citizens with the basic skills and knowledge required to take care of themselves and respond to their communities’ needs in the aftermath of a disaster.

When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site.

A CERT team is especially critical in the first three days following a disaster when conditions may prevent access by emergency response personnel.
