The daily operations of the Carmel Fire Department is directed by Assistant Chief Jeff Steele. Chief Steele has the responsibility of managing approximately 140 sworn personnel. The daily operations and department divisions that Chief Steele directs consist of the following:

The daily operations include fire suppression (putting out fires), search and rescue, and haz-mat (hazardous materials spills and emergencies).

The department divisions include Emergency Medical Services, Training, and Safety. Each of these divisions has it's own Division Chief that reports to Jeff Steele.

The Chief of Operations also monitors all working emergency scenes through coordination with the on scene Incident Commander. When fires escalate to a second alarm or greater, or there are special circumstances the Operations Chief, Administrative Chief or Chief of the Department can take command of the incident.

The Carmel Fire Department fleet consists of six front line fire engines, one 102' ladder truck, one front line heavy rescue, three front line ambulances, one battalion chief vehicle, one hazardous materials response truck, one grass/brush truck, two boats, one utility truck, one reserve fire engine, one reserve ambulance, and fourteen staff vehicles.
