Ambulance 44, 1 of 3 identical new ambulances in our fleet.
| Emergency Medical Services EMS Chief: Mark Hulett EMT-P Carmel Fire Department has always been instrumental in delivering emergency medical services (EMS) to the citizens of Carmel and Clay Township. Every firefighter is trained as an emergency medical technician (EMT) during recruit class and must stay certified throughout their employment. Prior to October 1st 1995 Riverview Hospital in Noblesville provided advanced life support (ALS) service with one paramedic, Carmel Fire Department took over the ALS service then. Carmel Fire Department now has 46 paramedics or 31% of the work force is certified ALS. There are also 3 firefighter EMT's currently enrolled in the St. Vincent Hospital Paramedic class. The CFD provides our EMS service via 6 ALS engine companies, 3 ALS ambulances, 1 ALS rescue, and 1 ALS ladder. CFD exceeds the standard for NFPA 1710 in response times for ALS. NFPA 1710 states that we must have ALS on the scene in less than 8 minutes. Due to the commitment and dedication of all our firefighter EMT's and paramedics, CFD is on the leading edge providing EMS to the citizens of Carmel and Clay Township. The following are some more examples of our technology at work. We now have paramedic engine, ladder and rescue companies. CFD is now carrying the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure device (CPAP) and the Medtronic LP12 with 12 lead EKG, Pulse Oximetry, Capnography, External Cardiac Pacing, and NIBP. CFD can then take this information and fax it to the receiving ER. Likewise, CFD carries the Rad #57 Carbon Monoxide monitors which allows for detecting CO in citizens involved in fires, as well as CFD personnel during Rehab at the scene of a fire.
