One hundred and fifty nine career fire personnel and ten civilians operate six fire stations. Covering approximately 51 square mile area, the Carmel Fire Department is responsible for providing emergency fire, medical, tactical rescue and hazardous materials service to the City of Carmel and Clay Township.

The fire stations are strategically placed in the city and township to provide a rapid response to any citizen to any location. All of the advanced treatment the fire department is prepared to offer is ineffective if a person from an injury or illness delays calling 911.
