ZNA Koi & Japanese Garden Festival

Japanese Garden and Koi Show

Indianapolis area families will be able to see some of the most beautiful oriental fish in the entire Midwest on June 16th and 17th in Carmel, Indiana.  Can you imagine how startling it is to have a thirty inch fish, patterned with red, black and luminescent white come right to the edge of its show tank and look at you with their brilliant eyes?  Wandering through this Japanese Garden and Koi Show will be like going to a live art exhibit.  Fifteen different show tanks will be on display, filled with gorgeous oriental fish ranging in size from six inches to more than 30 inches.  It will be like looking at 15 different live water paintings.  Children will be amazed at how friendly these fish can be.

While at the Koi Festival, take time to visit the hidden gem behind the City Hall; one of the few Japanese Style Gardens in Indiana.  The Garden, dedicated in 2009, was three years in the making by Carmel volunteers with donations from many area business and individuals.  The garden creates a tranquil beauty and provides a serene relaxing and reflective communication with nature.

This Japanese Garden and Koi Show is open to the public and will be held at the Carmel City Hall, Carmel, Indiana, just 1 block west of Range Line Road, Saturday, June 16th from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm and Sunday, June 17th from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  All donations will go to support and maintain the City of Carmel’s Japanese Garden.  Refer to the Club Website for the most current show information: www.NMZNA.net.

Show participants can visit more than fourteen vendor booths, and will be able to purchase all sorts of supplies, food and equipment to support their koi hobby.  Gardeners will be able to consult with representatives from a nursery that specialize in unique Japanese Maples to getting ideas from several local pond installers.

Children can even purchase goldfish from one of several fish dealers.  Mom can find garden art or a special piece unique jewelry with a garden touch.  There will be something to tempt everyone among the vendor exhibits or to window shop for new ideas for your garden or pond. This show is being hosted by the Northern Midwest ZNA Koi Club, and co-sponsored by the Carmel Arts Federation and the Japan-America Society of Indiana.

The Northern Midwest Koi Club delivers all of its programs with a strong educational focus and a welcoming spirit that encourages folks at all interest levels to come see exceptional show fish and to learn more about caring for koi and for their gardens and ponds.  The experienced judges who will be evaluating and awarding trophies throughout the weekend include Ray Jordan from San Antonio, TX and Henry Culpepper from Naples, FL. They both have many years of professional judging experience, both nationally and internationally.
