Carmel has one of America’s ‘cutest Main Streets’ says Fodor’s

Fodor’s, a publisher of travel and tourism publications and the website, has named Carmel one of “America’s 25 Cutest Main Streets” in Small(er) Towns in an online story posted July 3. The article noted the art galleries, interior design shops and the life-size, J. Seward Johnson statues located along Main Street and throughout the Carmel Arts & Design District.

The article had this to say about Carmel:

Art and design is what it’s all about on this main street, the first tipoff being the whimsical, life-size public statues scattered about (a dog-walking businesswoman in a red suit, a springtime woman dancing with flowers). From there, explore interior design shops, art galleries and showrooms. When it’s time for sustenance, pop into Woody’s restaurant, which occupies a former library, or Peace Water Winery, which donates half its proceeds to charity.

“It is always nice to be recognized by national publications for the beauty of our City and it was particularly nice to see a few of our local establishments mentioned by name,” said Mayor Jim Brainard. “We have worked hard over the past 20 years to improve the quality of life for our residents and visitors by creating something special in our Arts & Design District. I hope this story results in even more visitors coming to Carmel in the future to enjoy our City and spend their money at our local businesses.”

Among the other “Cutest Main Streets” were popular destinations like Stowe, VT; Rockland ME; Golden, CO; Augusta, GA; Holland, MI and others.
