Carmel added to address line for
46290 Zip Code

Carmel, IN – Mayor Jim Brainard was notified recently that the U.S. Postal Service headquarters in Washington, D.C. approved the city’s request for the preferred last line of all addresses within zip code 46290 to be changed to Carmel, IN 46290. This change took effect on July 1 and all businesses and residents in this area have been notified.

“I pursued the change after our successful appeal to the USPS Headquarters for zip code 46280 and for uniformity in helping adjacent postal customers within zip code 46290 be better identified as Carmel residents and businesses,” said Mayor Brainard. “This change should result in no disruption in your mail service and your mail will continue to be processed by and delivered from the Nora Post Office.”

Below is a map identifying the area designated as zip code 46290. The southern border of Carmel is 96th Street, so all addresses north of 96th Street are located within the corporate boundaries of Carmel.

While the change took effect July 1, 2020, the City of Carmel and the USPS realize it could be several months before businesses are able to update their systems. During this transition period, mail to this zipcode will continue to be delivered, regardless of the city listed, as long as zip code 46290 appears on the last line of the address.
