City of Carmel Sister Cities
Sister Cities were created to promote peace through people-to-people relationships. They offer the flexibility to allow connections to form between communities that are mutually beneficial and take on issues that are most relevant to the partners.

In 1992, international exchange activities began in Kawachinagano, Osaka, Japan. Among them was full-fledged International Promotion Project called, “Kawachinagano City Internationalization Policy Plan.” One of the results of this activity was a proposal to form a Sister City relationship. Carmel Junior High and Carmel High school already established a long-term Sister City school relationship with Seikyo Gakuen, located in Kawachinagano City, Japan. (read more) |
The Carmel-Xiangyang Sister City initiative was implemented to create more educational, cultural and economic exchange opportunities between Carmel, Indiana and Xiangyang, Hubei. Leaders from both cities have expressed great interest in establishing a formal Sister City relationship between Carmel and Xiangyang. (read more) |
