The City of Carmel requires Fence Permits for all new and replacement fences within the City Limits.
As a general rule, any fence repair affecting over 50% of an existing fence will also require a permit.
To apply for a fence permit, please complete the following steps:
- On a site survey showing the property lines and easements, draw the location of the proposed fence. If you don’t have a site survey, you can submit a Request For Information (RFI) to see if the City has these records.
- If the fence will encroach into, or across, any easement, you will need to complete a Waiver of Liability form and have it notarized. There are several Notaries in City Hall.
- Click the Online Permitting button below and complete a fence application. You will need to upload the Site Survey and Waiver of Liability to the Related Documents section of the application.
