Did you know that nearly 65% of all child restraints are used improperly? The Carmel Police Department is the place to go to be sure that you are using your child’s car safety seat correctly. Currently, 9 employees of the Carmel Police Department are certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Council as Child Restraint Technicians. They will inspect your child safety seat, on Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoon and selected Sunday mornings per month by appointment, free of charge.
"The manufacturers’ instructions just don’t adequately address all the potential installation problems. I have had to make adjustments on almost every child safety seat I have inspected, and in some cases, new seats have been provided. We are happy to perform this service in order to ensure the safety of our youngest citizens."
"Even if you feel confident that you have installed your child safety seat correctly, you should take advantage of this program," said Ann Gallagher, department coordinator of the Child Safety Seat Program.
Requests for inspections are multiplying rapidly.
