What is S.A.F.E. House?
The Stay Alive Family Education (S.A.F.E.) House, located on the first floor of the Carmel Clay Community Building at 210 Veterans Way, serves as an innovative training facility designed to teach fire and life safety skills through interactive and immersive experiences. Operated by the Carmel Fire Department, the S.A.F.E. House offers a controlled environment where visitors of all ages can engage in realistic simulations, from house fires and ambulance rides to tornado scenarios and navigating roundabouts. These hands-on learning opportunities aim to equip individuals with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations.
The facility features various rooms modeled after a typical home, including a bedroom where harmless smoke is introduced to demonstrate fire safety procedures, a kitchen for stove and microwave safety training, and a utility room with a hot water heater, panel box, and washer and dryer. Additionally, video projections simulate fires, tornadoes, and traffic scenarios, enhancing the realism of the training sessions. The S.A.F.E. House is open to the public, offering valuable education to the Carmel community and beyond.
