It is the mission of the Carmel Police Department Teen Academy to provide teens with a challenging learning environment that will develop and enhance good decision-making, leadership skills and relationships with their community police officers.

Training Sessions

Days include classes in K-9, traffic stops, jail tour, drone demo, Emergency Response Group, Accident Investigations, Indiana State Police, FBI, SWAT Defensive Tactics, some simulated firearms operations, OWI awareness, close order drill and physical fitness training.

Requirements

Teens must be aged 13 through 18 to apply and free of any significant disciplinary problems.

Since there is daily physical exercise, teens are required to wear comfortable athletic shoes and blue or dark colored athletic shorts. A Teen Academy t-shirt will be distributed the first day of the program and teens must wear it each day, with a pair of dark colored athletic shorts.

Teens are required to keep their hair off their collar. Teens should bring a sack lunch Monday-Thursday. Graduation meal is catered on Friday night!

Carmel Police Department has partnered with Carmel-Clay schools to bring this program to the Carmel Middle School campus.
Classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. (Monday - Thursday) and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Friday)

Completion of the program culminates in a graduation ceremony that Friday night for the whole family, with a delicious catered meal, provided by Stewart and Stewart Attorneys.
