Carmel Police Department’s School Resource Unit Awarded the Prestigious NASRO 2012 Model Agency Award
The School Resource Unit of the Carmel Police Department, which serves the Carmel Clay School District, has been named by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) as their 2012 Model Agency and received the award at the National School Resource Officer Conference.

On Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at approximately 10:00 PM, the Carmel Police Department responded to a robbery in the area of 10801 N. Michigan Rd. Two victims reported that a brown Chevrolet Impala, with light window tint, pulled up beside them and two black males got out and approached them. The two suspects had guns and demanded money. The suspects took a wallet and purse and left the area in the brown Impala. No one was injured during the incident.

The City of Carmel is continuing to see an increase in the number burglaries in our area. Most of them have been during daylight hours. It appears that the suspects initially knock on doors to see if homeowners are present, then force their way inside if they are not home. Once inside, they have been taking money, jewelry, and other valuables that can be removed from the home quickly.

CARMEL, IN – As our celebration of Independence Day, the 4th of July, quickly approaches we want to remind residents and inform visitors of the fireworks rules in Carmel and ask that appropriate safety precautions are followed so that everyone can have an enjoyable and safe holiday. Carmel City Ordinance requires that – Fireworks can only be used between 5 p.m. and midnight on June 29 & 30, July 1 – 3, and July 5 – 9. Hours are extended on July 4th so that fireworks can be used between 10 a.m. and midnight on that date only.

On June 20, 2012 at approximately 9:00 am a burglary was reported in the11500 block of Senie Lane. The victim reported that an unknown male forced entry into her home while she was sleeping. The victim shouted at the suspect who fled the home. He was described as a black male, with an athletic build, approximately 28-34 years old, 5'8" 160 pounds, with short black hair. The suspect was wearing a blue t-shirt, red shorts and a black “do-rag” at the time of the break in. The suspect was frightened off before any valuables were taken. Police searched the area with a K9 but were unable to locate the suspect.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at approximately 2:30 pm Carmel Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call in the area of 4200 East 126th Street. A 15 year old girl stated that she was riding her bike across the bridge when an unknown male subject stopped her. According to the girl’s statement, the subject spoke with her briefly then placed his hand on her chest. The suspect left the area headed east.

On June 5, 2012 Carmel police officers were conducting surveillance on Honda Elements parked in the area of 11611 N. Meridian Street. Prior to this surveillance, there had been approximately twelve thefts of catalytic converters; eleven of which had been from Honda Elements. Most of these thefts occurred along the Meridian Street corridor.

On April 26, 2012 at approximately 3:09pm a robbery was reported at the Old National Bank at 10460 North Michigan Road. The Carmel Police Department is actively investigating the crime.

On April 11, 2012 the Carmel City Court reported the theft of a handheld metal detector. The theft occurred on April 9, 2012 at approximately 12:30 PM. The Carmel Police Department took a report and is investigating the incident.

On March 18, 2012 the Carmel Police Department took a report of criminal mischief to the Japanese Garden at 1 Civic Square. On March 18th, shortly after midnight, unknown suspects threw two concrete benches and a small statue into the pond.

On March 1, 2012 at approximately 6:45 am the Carmel Police Department responded to a crash in the intersection of US 31 and Carmel Drive. A blue Dodge truck travelling northbound on US 31 collided with a black Chevrolet Trailblazer that was southbound on US 31 attempting to turn eastbound onto Carmel Dr. Witnesses at the scene stated that the Dodge truck ran a red light and struck the Trailblazer. The Carmel Fire Department transported both drivers to Saint Vincent Hospital on 86th Street.

At approximately 4:00 am this morning the Carmel Police Department responded to a one vehicle accident in the area of Gray Road and Kingswood Drive. The driver, Jay D. Gala a 26 year old male from Carmel, drove off the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree with his 2008 Nissan. The pole he struck knocked out power from approximately Gray Rd. to River Rd. between 126th St. and 106th St. Gala was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was transported to the Hamilton County Jail on $2500 bond.

A 16 year old Carmel female is recovering from a seizure after smoking a substance known as “spice”. On February 14, 2012 at approximately 5:00 pm the Carmel Police Department responded with the Carmel Fire Department to investigate a report of 16 year old female having seizures in the 2500 block of Durbin Dr. Witnesses stated that the 16 year old female took one hit of a substance known as "spice" and began to convulse. The female was taken to Saint Vincent's Hospital on 86th Street and kept overnight for observation.
The Carmel Police Department has responded to two catalytic convertor thefts in the last week. The first occurred at Five Seasons, 1300 E. 96th Street and the latest was at Saint Vincent Health located at 10330 North Meridian Street. The vehicles were a Honda Pilot and Honda Element. In both cases the owner left their vehicle in the parking lot and when they returned the catalytic convertor had been stolen.

On Thursday, January 12, 2012 at approximately 12:40am Carmel Police received a report of a carjacking in the Marsh parking lot at 2140 E. 116th Street.
