Art of Dog

Art of Dog Video (2019)

Saturday, September 21, Noon - 4 p.m.
Join your friends and their furry companions at the City of Carmel’s annual fundraising event, Art of the Dog at Sophia Square in the Carmel Arts and Design District.
Proceeds from the event go to the Indiana Canine Assistance Network, or ICAN, the only accredited service dog training program in Indiana. This organization brings together dogs, offenders and people with disabilities to provide hope for more enriched and independent living.

Art of Wine

Saturdays in July from 5 - 10 p.m.
A treat for your senses; Enjoy a summer evening experiencing vintages al fresco at Art of Wine. Guests 21 years of age and older can enjoy a variety of wines while also taking in the Arts & Design District’s galleries, shops and restaurants. Live entertainment enhances this event, which is a favorite of many.

The art of the automobile is on display in Carmel's Arts & Design District during Artomobilia. Cars from all eras line the streets and galleries exhibit art with an auto theme.

Carmel Porchfest

Carmel PorchFest Video (2015)

PorchFest is a family-friendly event that is free and open to the public. Featured will be a variety of musical acts ranging from acoustic to electric, solo to ensemble from a wide variety of musical genres that will perform live on neighborhood porches. All participants, including bands, homeowners and organizers, are comprised of volunteers from the Carmel and surrounding areas.
Mayor Jim Brainard says of the concept, “Carmel PorchFest is an excellent addition to our active events schedule. It highlights other lesser known streets in the district to show the great uptown neighborhood that comprises the Arts & Design District.”

Carmel Farmer's Market

Farmers Market Time Lapse

Saturday mornings from 8 - 11:30 a.m., May through the end of September
Location: 5 Center Green, Carmel IN 46032
(at the corner of City Center Drive & 3rd Street SW, on the lawn of the Palladium).

The Carmel Farmers Market (CFM) is one of the largest farmers markets in Indiana. Featuring sixty-four vendors of Indiana grown and/or produced edible products and plants, this Market is attended by nearly 80,000 visitors each summer. When you shop at the Summer Market you can pick from an array of fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, poultry, and meats. And you purchase them from the growers or their family members! There are also plenty of prepared foods such as jams, salsas, breakfast sandwiches, Belgian waffles, Danish pastries, cheeses and honey. Cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, and live music, all taking place adjacent to Carmel’s Palladium concert hall, make supporting local Indiana growers fun for the entire family! Come visit the Market for breakfast or lunch, while listening to live music from the Carmel Rotary Amphitheater.

Carmel Farmer's Winter Market

Saturday mornings from October 21 through February 24
Location: The Wire Factory (510 3rd Avenue SW) in the heart of central Carmel.
The hours are 9 AM to 12:00 noon.
The Market will not be open the last two Saturdays of December.
This event is free and open to the public.

The Winter Carmel Farmers Market, like the Summer Market, is an exciting and bountiful place to buy your fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, eggs, plants, and prepared foods. Only edible products, with the exception of annuals, perennials, along with products made directly from agricultural products, such as beeswax items, may be sold at the Market. No craft items are sold. When you shop at either of our Markets, you get the freshest, most delicious foods available from the growers themselves! And, with few exceptions, all products are grown and/or produced in Indiana.

Carmel on Canvas

Third weekend in September (typically)
The Carmel on Canvas Plein Air Painting Event provides artists with 3 days of plein air painting, within the Carmel Arts & Design District. Early registration is $40 and registration the days of the event will be $50. We are awarding a total of $5,000 in awards with any sales going 100% to artists. Artists may paint Friday and Saturday and submit one framed work for judging at the Artist's Reception Saturday at the Indiana Design Center. The awards for this event will be $4,000, including $1,000 for Best of Show.
Sunday, we will follow with the QUICK PAINT Sunday for artists 14 and older with awards totalling $1,000. Registration for this event will be $15, payable Sunday at registration. The Carmel Artists Association will also assist with the student section for the Paint Out. Registration for that event will be free with awards announced at the registration.

Christkindlmarkt Promotion (2018)

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is bringing the charm of a long standing European tradition to the heart of Carmel, Indiana. One of the earliest of these markets was the 16th century Christkindlmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany and the wonderful tradition has now spread worldwide. Guests will experience one of a kind, high quality, handmade gifts, Germanic inspired food, drink and ice skating.

Holocaust - Days of Remembrance

The City of Carmel’s Holocaust, Days of Remembrance, Ceremony is held each year to remember and honor the victims of the Holocaust. This event will be held in the Tarkington Theater at The Center for the Performing Arts and includes a Civic Proclamation by Mayor Brainard and special guest speakers. Area schools and churches participate in the event featuring musical performances and speeches.

Held annually on July 3rd and 4th
Location: Carmel Civic Square

This annual festival celebrating the 4th of July is the highlight of summer in Carmel. Festivities include a parade, live entertainment, food vendors and a spectacular fireworks display. Activities are available for all age groups, making it a fun event for the entire family.

Carmel International Arts Festival

Held annually in September
Location: Main Street, Carmel Arts & Design District

The International Arts Festival held in September features a juried art exhibit of artists from around the world. Visitors of all ages also can enjoy concerts, dance performances and hands-on activities for children. The festival takes place in the Carmel Arts and Design District, an area dedicated to the arts in Old Town Carmel.

Holiday at Center Green (formally known as Holiday on the Square)

Held annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving
Location: Carmel Civic Square

Co-sponsored by the City of Carmel and the Carmel Arts Council, this event kicks off the holiday season in Carmel. Holiday entertainment, Santa, his elves, and live reindeer provide a festive atmosphere for the City’s Holiday lighting ceremony on Civic Square. The Mayor officiates this event and children can get their picture with Santa for a small fee.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day Promo

The City of Carmel honors its fallen heroes at the Memorial Day Ceremony each year. The event is held the Friday before Memorial Day at 9 a.m. The event is held outside at the Veterans Memorial Plaza on Third Avenue SW, south of City Center Drive. Carmel's American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts perform a flag raising ceremony and join the mayor, other dignitaries and a keynote speaker from one of the various branches of the military at this event.

Mooncake Festival

Presented by the Carmel-Xiangyang Sister City Committee, the City of Carmel Chinese Mooncake Festival typically takes place the second Saturday in September. There will be a dragon parade, traditional Chinese dancing and music and of course Chinese Mooncakes. Bring the whole family out to experience the culture and traditions of China in your own neighborhood.

Music on the Monon

Music on the Monon is a free concert series on select Saturday nights in the summer at Carmel’s Carter Green - the popular venue used by the Carmel Farmers Market throughout the summer. All concerts are free and open to the public. Concert attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets, and bike racks will be provided for guests that prefer to pedal and park. Bike racks will not be monitored, so guests should plan to bring a lock to secure their bicycle. Visitors are encouraged to try one of the many fine dining choices nearby for pre-concert meals or bring your own picnic or grab carry-out from Carmel City Center, Monon Square or Midtown restaurants. For visitors arriving by car, parking is available at Monon Square shopping center, City Center and Veterans Way parking garages and other public parking areas. On-street parking is available where signed; please comply with all posted parking regulations.


This event is free to the public and open to all ages.
Enjoy food, entertainment and fall fun with the Palladium and the Center Green serving as a scenic background.

Summer Family Concert Series at the Gazebo

Location: Carmel Civic Square

This free summer concert series offers weekly family entertainment on the lawn of Carmel Civic Square. Families are encouraged to bring picnic suppers and enjoy the outdoor music.

Veterans Day

2019 Ceremony Flyer

Traditionally, the Carmel Veterans Day ceremony is held at noon the business day before Veterans Day
(which allows our local veterans to participate in other regional ceremonies held on Veterans Day)
This event is free and open to the public (No ticketing is required).

The City of Carmel, Mayor Jim Brainard and members of local veterans organizations, work together to host an annual Veterans Day Ceremony, a community event in honor of our veterans. The ceremony pays tribute and thanks those who served our country in order for us to enjoy the freedoms that we have today.
The elementary grades, K-5, participate in the poster contest and middle school students grades, 6-8, write essays to enter into the contest. One student is selected from each grade level to attend the ceremony and present their poster or essay during the event.
